10 the best-value European cities for trips in 2015

It is not new for everyone that the major changes this year had to do with exchange rates. Every currency in Europe fell against the US Dollar, with some plunging far more than others. The Euro itself lost 15% against the USD and if you are holding US money, Europe is now cheaper than it has been in many years.nha-trang“Price of travel” Company conducted comparing prices for travelers in various popular European cities. They calculated how much money the average traveler need to live a day in a given city. In such a daily price includes:

  1. One night in a budget hostel (sofa bed) with good reviews and location.
  2. Travel by public transport during the day.
  3. Visit a famous sights paid (although in most cities there are many free attractions, but some cannot refuse to pay).
  4. The three budget options of food (they have included the minimum cost of food and added another 20% to make it more real amount during a long journey).
  5. Three glasses of cheap local beer or wine (or you can take dessert and coffee instead of it).

So, let’s start top 10 the cheapest European cities in 2015 review (from the cheapest to most expensive).

1.  Bucharest, Romania

Definitely not Romania’s most charming town, Bucharest’s Old Town gets decent reviews but the rest of the city struggles to appeal to tourists. Fortunately, those that make the effort to come will at least be rewarded with low prices all around, which certainly help make up for the other frustrations of visiting. You should visit the huge parliament building and walk around Bucharest’s streets. Hostels seem to be getting cheaper lately. Daily Backpacker Index is US$26.38/day.

bulgaria-sofia2.  Sofia, Bulgaria.

This city remains a fantastic bargain among European capitals, with a very pleasant city center that is quite welcoming of foreign tourists. Prices of nearly everything are very cheap, except for inbound flights from other major cities. For this reason, Sofia is out of the way for anyone who isn’t doing an extensive tour of the region. Pay attention to Sveta Sofia Church (it gave the city its name), Borisova Gradina Park and National Art Gallery visiting. You can spend a day in Sofia for US$27.27.

budapest-hungary3. Budapest, Hungary.

Budapest is a more visually impressive city loaded with worthwhile sights. This is another place where nearly everything seems like a bargain compared to elsewhere in Europe, yet it’s a classic and important city with all the amenities. We are sure – this city is worth your attention! Besides, it is cheap enough, US$29.21/day only.

4. Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic.

If you have never heard of Český Krumlov then do not worry – you aren’t alone. It’s a small town in southern Czech Republic of about 14,000 residents, and it was mostly in ruins after decades of Communist neglect. But it has been scrubbed and rediscovered by tourists looking for something different. The setting in between a lazy, serpentine river and beneath a 13th Century castle is simply stunning, and everything is within modest walking distance.

As lovely as it is, it’s the low prices and good quality that you might remember most. Your day in this town will cost US$30.78.Old-Town-Square-Warsaw-Poland

5.  Warsaw, Poland.

The capital city of Poland attracts tourists with a lot of bright streets and interesting places. This city is one of the newest ‘old towns’ in Europe. Famously re-built from a pile of rubble after WWII, this place oozes charm and tranquility. Remember, that the Market Square, with its renaissance buildings, is not to be missed. Even by the Old Town’s standards, this square is surprisingly quiet and has a cozy feel to it – a great place to rest, revitalize and plan your next move.  Exploring the quieter streets and alleyways will throw up all sorts of unexpected sights. Hidden courtyards and squares, gardens and statues will delight you. Daily backpacker index is US$31.05/day.

6.  Saint Petersburg, Russia.

They say that Russia is not interesting country for tourist. We are not agree and propose you to visit this impressive and beautiful city. Far more tourist-friendly than Moscow, Saint Petersburg is also cheaper and arguably more interesting. Most things are very affordable, and the city would seem even cheaper if its incredible Hermitage Museum/Winter Palace didn’t (justifiably) cost so much. Hotels and tourist restaurants aren’t so cheap, however. Prices here could drift up or down as 2015 goes on. You can spend a day in Saint Petersburg for US$34.27

Old-Town-Vilnius-Lithuania-467. Vilnius, Lithuania.

Unlike nearby Riga and Tallinn, the city of Vilnius does not have a cruise port and it’s well inland. For this reason it feels far less touristy than the other two, and the Old Town is gorgeous. This is another Baltic capital that is surprisingly cheap in many ways, so it’s a worthwhile stop between Latvia and Poland. Your day being in Vilnius will cost US$37.14.

8.  Istanbul, Turkey.

The classic east-meets-west city had been creeping up in price, but the decline of the Turkish Lira lately has made it a bargain again. Istanbul’s many attractions include towering minarets, underground Byzantine cisterns and steamy bathhouses. We propose you to visit the Spice Bazaar (here you’ll be able to pick up spices, nuts, dried fruit, Turkish coffee, loose leaf tea, and even Turkish delight), eat a kumpir (it is a loaded baked potato, the server will mix the potato with cheese and butter until it’s light and fluffy) and marvel at Hagia Sophia – this architectural wonder has a long history which has seen it go from Eastern Orthodox cathedral, to Roman Cathedral, back to Eastern Orthodox cathedral, to mosque, and now it’s a museum. Daily Backpacker Index is US$42.08/day.

tourism_hotels_travels_Prague_Czech Republic9.  Prague, Czech Republic.

In the 1990s Prague was always used as an example of a city that is incredibly cheap yet still beautiful and historic, but that sort of chit-chat triggered the masses to follow. Still, in spite of high hotel prices, Prague is still quite cheap for those willing to stay in hostels and scout for bargain food and drinks. “Prague never lets you go”, said Franz Kafka, “this dear little mother has claws”. Prague gets her golden claws into tourists too, and few ever make it outside the capital. But those who tear themselves away won’t be sorry; the honey-coloured spa towns in the Sudeten Mountains, Bohemia’s Renaissance breweries and hilltop ruins, and the tumbling vineyards and underground bars of Moravia are well worth exploring. Check it by yourself! Your day in Prague will cost about US$44.93/day.

Tenerife-Beach10.  Tenerife, Spain.

There are not many cultural attractions to be found here, so it’s mainly a place to relax. Beautiful views, unusual plants and bright people will make your rest unforgettable! And you will pay US$48.33/day for this. Feel free to write your opinion in the comments below. And what place will be your destination?
