Bright sapphire light in the cave appeared due to the fact that during the centuries the ice was compressed, expelling air bubbles. Since there is no oxygen left, the ice absorbs sunlight and shimmers in shades of blue. For safety reasons, travelers can only visit Skaftafell when the temperature is low.
