Life on wheels or how to make a cozy home out of your 16-year-old van

More and more people around the glode follow the idea to leave the usual place of work with stable earnings, sell everything and go off into the sunset, becoming the so called “digital nomads”. Many programmers, translators, writers, photographers and graphic designers are constantly moving from place to place, while continuing to work.Deciding to follow this tendency, a Hungarian photographer, Norbert Juhász (Norbert Juhász) and his fiancée Dora decided to give up living an ordinary life in the city center of Budapest and transform their 16-year-old van into a mobile home for traveling and freelancing. The vehicle itself is quite unremarkable, and looks like a lot of other cargo vans.

The architectural education of Juhász helped him to realize his idea of remaking his old van into a mobile home, cozy enough for two people to live.

The entire interior of their new home is composed of three main elements. The first one is a sofa.

The sofa plays a role of the double bed. Below the sofa-bed there is an electrical system and a storage space.

The final element is the L-shaped cabinet, the lower part of which serves as a place to sit, with a fridge inside. At the top there is a place to store things.

For maximum thermal insulation, the body of the van is covered with a 5-centimeter layer of polyurethane foam on the inside.

The mobile home has a rather complicated electrical system voltage going up to 12 volts. It can be charged in three different ways: by using 250-watt solar panels placed on the roof of the van, by using a motor generator or by mains voltage of 220 volts.

It comprises two rechargeable batteries with a total capacity of 200 Ah and a small 220 volts inverter.

The water and gas supply systems are extremely easy to use. There is a 11-kilogram gas cylinder connected to the stove, and 70-liter water tank that is connected to a tap with a pump which is activated by pressure. The extra connection allows the couple to take a shower behind the van.

What about you? Could you leave concrete jungles and start completely new life of traveller in a mobile home without some common facilities?
