Travel craze! This guy covered 80,000 kilometers hitchhiking and without spending a penny on a plane ticket

29-year-old Australian blogger Tyral Dalitz went on a journey from Sydney and arrived to San Diego, after spending 976 days on the road. He reached his destination by cars, trains, motorcycles and buses, as well as on foot and hitchhiking.

The traveler covered a pretty long distance of more than 80,000 kilometers from Australia to America – through 50 countries – without stepping on the board of the plane. He slept on other people’s sofas, set up a tent in the desert and chose the “cheapest and dangerous” routes, because he was looking for adventures.

The epic journey took almost three years and cost him $ 22,000. Tyral worked on a farm to make money. He chose such a difficult route, because he wanted to enjoy the trip, and not just the destination. He says he covered more than 80,000 kilometers and planned to continue the journey, to the horror of his girlfriend Hannah Altschwager, who he had not seen him for nine long months in a row.

Crossing the border between Belarus and Ukraine took a bit of convincing to the camo dressed guards I was actually me. We then had to walk the 1k between countries on foot. With no one around we took the opportunity to snag some sneaky photos. Behaving like a couple of idiots, hannah cart wheeling over the border while I attempted my best 'slug'. It wasn't until we finally kept walking we spotted the huge guard tower with a solider standing behind a massive pair of binoculars pointing right at the crossing. Whoops. Lucky behaving like idiot tourists isn't enough to be denied entry into Ukraine. Him and his friends would have had a good laugh at least… #ukraine #liviv #kiev #europe #aussie #lostaussie #overlandtravel #noairtoeverywhere #backpacker #backpacking #travelblog #lostaussies #adventure #adventuretravel #squatting #abandoned #traveller #backpack #australian #tydalitz #thelostaussie #nomad #nomadlife #hotairballoons #worldnomads #theglobewonderer

“The population of Oaklands on the east coast of Australia, where I grew up, is only 300 people. I have nothing to do there, so I always had a desire to leave this place,” – says Tyral.

“Since I started out, I got sunburnt, lost weight and made a lot of friends. It was an incredible experience. The biggest lesson I learned from all this is that there are good people everywhere: in any situation, I always met someone who wanted to help me.”

“Initially, it was just an adventure and a challenge to myself, but now I want to complete a round-the-world trip and return to Australia.” In Australia, Tyral’s mother and his girlfriend are waiting for him.

Before embarking on a journey on July 26, 2014, Tyral lived in a van and traveled around Australia, working on farms in all corners of the country.

He sailed from Australia through Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, Laos and Cambodia and took a motorcycle ride all over Vietnam. From Vietnam he went to China and Mongolia, then jumped on the train and went to St. Petersburg. Then he traveled for 12 months, hitchhiking across Europe, visiting 33 countries, and arrived to London on the Christmas Eve.

There he found on Facebook a team that moved across the Pacific Ocean to America. He joined them and they together went to the Canary Islands, the Caribbean and the Panama Canal, Mexico, and, in the end, Tyral found himself in San Diego, California, where he is now.

Conquered the Atlantic Ocean! This year has already started off as a pretty awesome and adventurous one, kicking off the year sailing off the coast of Portugal preparing ourselves and the boat for an approaching storm. Three days of some hectic sleepless sailing that was pretty different to the tropical calm waters of Indonesia, I spewed my guts up once but somehow survived. It took us 12 days to get to the Canary Islands where I finally enjoyed some warmth again after the bullshit cold of London. From there we sailed across the Atlantic, sailing the whole way pretty much with the spinnaker (a pretty good feat in the sailing world apparently) arriving in Antigua 17 days later. Considering before I started this journey I had zero sailing experience, feeling pretty chuffed to now have sailed across my first ocean. Not just on any boat either but probably the coolest boat possible with the best crew imaginable apart of the most epic project ever (more on that later, it deserves its own post). Safe to say this year is looking like its going to be another bloody good one, possibly the best yet. Only frustrating point to share, after traveling for 2.5years all the way from Australia to Europe carrying a fishing rod that I rarely used and even more rarely caught any fish with, of course I managed to leave it behind in France on my squat before moving my life back onto a boat. Massive fail. Anyone heading to France this year and fancies a new rod, I can draw you map to find one… #aussie #lostaussie #overlandtravel #noairtoeverywhere #backpacker #backpacking #lostaussies #adventure #adventuretravel #travel #traveller #love #tbt #instagood #photooftheday #beautiful #backpack #tydalitz #thelostaussie #nomad #worldnomads #sailor #sailing #Atlantic #yachtieworld #worldsailing #travelawesome #worldnomads #discovervacations @inspravel #inspravel #iamtb

“Initially, I just wanted to go to London without the help of a plane. I found a couple of people of retirement age who needed help on the boat, and left Australia with them. Then I got on another boat, and then on one more – everything developed swiftly.”

“Before I left Australia, I worked for 18 months and collected about 24 000 US dollars. It was enough amount of money to spend during these three years. I saved money spending daily about 8-12 dollars.”

“The world is not as scary as people show it to us,” says the traveler. And he is so damn right! But you can’t check it out just sitting at home. Leave your comfort zone, start doing something and soon you will see how your life changes for better!!!
