VIVA LA CUBA! Cayo Coco – A wonderful island to the north of the country (Day 3)

We are continuing our trip around wonderful island of Cuba. Today we are going to reach small island of Cayo Coco. It is situated just north of the mainland Cuba. Gorgeous beaches with white sand and shallow, clear water is the main pride of Cayo Coco.The island of Cayo Coco is situated in the northern part of the country and is washed by the Atlantic Ocean.

Cayo Coco is declared to be a national nature reserve of Cuba. Here you can see unspoiled flora and fauna, such as pink flamingos and ibis (locals call them coco, so the island is called after this species of birds).

The island is part of the famous coral reef Jardines del Rey ( “royal gardens”), named by the conquistadors after the Spanish King Fernando. In the XVI century, the island was a shelter for pirates and illegal traffickers.
