Welcome to Egypt – A place where the ancient meets the modern (Part 1)

Egypt is famous for its pyramids, the stone tombs of the kings of Egypt – the Pharaohs. Egyptian pyramids are one of the world’s greatest historical mystery. They are pretty old “buildings” constructed around 2500-2560 BC.

Egyptian pyramids are the greatest architectural monuments of ancient Egypt. They are added to the list of the “seven wonders of the world”the pyramid of Cheops and the Pyramids of Giza are s considred to be in the list of “New Seven Wonders of the World”.

But why did the Ancient Egyptians built these pyramids?

They believed that if the body of the dead pharaoh was mummified after death, the pharaoh would live forever. And the shape of the tombs was designed so that it could protect the body of the buried Pharaoh and all his belongings.

You can find a lot of pyramids in Egypt but the most famous and the largest is the Great Pyramid, built for the Pharaoh Khuf. Its construction is more than 140 metres high. It took Egyptians more than 20 years to build it.

The iconic and so gorgeous statue of The Sphinx stands in front of all the pyramids in Giza. The Sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of a pharaoh is considered to be the guard of this monumental constructions.

Then take a boat trip from the south to the north along the Nile River. And for those who are afraid of crocodiles, it is better to go for a ride along the eastern coast and admire the picturesque banks of the Luxor area.

Coloured Canyon is one more must-visit place in Egypt.

Come to this place at least in order to compare it with the “Grand Canyon” in the Crimea. The bright colors of stones fully confirm its name. At the same time, check yourself for endurance and heat resistance.

Choose one day for visiting the market place in Cairo. This is not just a market, it is a kind of an open-air museum. All kinds of spices, glassware, jewelry, clothing, shoes, furniture and antiques – anything you like is on offer here. You can even buy a camel here. Do you need a camel? :)))

While in Cairo, take a look at the Egyptian National Museum. More than 150 thousand pieces of antiquity are collected here. More than 100 rooms exhibit the objects of architecture, introducing the culture of ancient Egypt.
