We all sooner or later think about moving to another city or even want to change a country. There are a lot of reasons for this: the desire to change your life situation, financial difficulties, a sense of insecurity or just a dream to see the world. One of the largest and most famous consulting companies PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) has compiled a list of 30 cities around the world that are most attractive for moving to. PwC assessed them by such criteria as infrastructure development, health, safety, economic situation and good opportunities for doing business. We decided to select 11 cities from the top of this list and highlighted the main characteristics of each of them.

Berlin

Everyone who has ever visited Berlin knows that this city has an extensive metro network that is distinguished by its cleanliness and convenience. Berlin is also safe for tourists. Many corporations, such as Google, SoundCloud, etc., open more and more offices in Berlin. Therefore, the city is often called the European Silicon Valley.

In the last year’s list of PwC Berlin took 16th place, and this year it moved to the 12th position.

Chicago

city to move

Chicago is one of the largest cities in the United States. Its population is 3 million people. In the PwC list, Chicago is in the top ten due to the great opportunities for doing business, the quality of life and air conditions.

However, not everything is so good here. The transport system and infrastructure require serious improvement. The government of Chicago has already given several billion dollars to repair the city water supply system, school and municipal institutions. But such global projects take time.

Sydney

city to move

Sydney’s advantages are obvious. We all heard about Australia, its wonderful nature, beaches and fauna. In the ranking of PwC, Sydney took the first place in terms of quality of life and livability. As for the remaining indicators, such as the financial situation, infrastructure and culture, Sydney is also on top and has virtually no weaknesses.

The only drawback of this city is the price of housing. As in all Australia, prices for dwellings are very high. For example, renting a one-room apartment in Sydney will cost about $2000 per month.

The daily cost in this city is 16% higher than average daily expenses around the world. This puts Sydney on the 12th place in the list of the most expensive cities in the world.

Hong Kong

city to move

Despite the incredible population density, Hong Kong ranks 5th in the world in terms of life expectancy. The transport system of Hong Kong is not a problem – about 90% of daily movements are made on public transport.

Hong Kong takes the first place in terms of economic freedom due to low taxes on business and a competently constructed financial market. PwC placed Hong Kong in 2nd place for opportunities to run your own business here.

Disadvantages of Hong Kong: pollution, air quality.

Stockholm

city to move

Stockholm is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. Thanks to the policy of promoting the IT industry, such companies as Spotify and DICE Games (released Battlefield, Mirrors Edge and other well-known computer and console games) appeared in Stockholm.

Ulla Hamilton, Stockholm’s vice-mayor for innovation, in her interview with PwC, said that the city is trying to help IT companies in every way, because this industry is the future of the country.

Stockholm is a very clean and green city. A well-developed transportation system, clean water and a special heating system help to maintain order.

The only drawback of Stockholm is immigrants, who are arriving in big amounts here.

Paris

city to move

Paris is famous for its libraries, universities and a high level of education, ranking first in the the list of the most educated cities.

Paris is also famous for its transportation system. 14 metro lines, regional trains and separate lanes for buses – all this makes public transport in Paris be by a head taller in comparison with other cities of the world.

Expensive housing, traffic jams and the unemployment rate, which is slightly above the norm, are the only drawbacks of this city.

San Francisco

city to move

One third of all investments that come to the US are due to the Silicon Valley, which is located in San Francisco. This is part of the city, which is characterized by a large concentration of IT corporations. Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Adobe – this is only a small part of the companies whose offices are located here.

Despite the fact that in the PwC rating San Francisco is not the most expensive city, every year it becomes more and more expensive for living. This causes many people to move to the suburbs.

Toronto

city to move

Despite the scandal with the cocaine-dependent mayor that occurred in 2012, Toronto is one of the best cities to live in. it is in the top three in terms of quality of life, security and infrastructure, which makes it a desirable city for moving to.

In the public transport rating, Toronto ranks first in the world. And in the ranking of traffic congestion – 13th (the higher the position, the worse).

Singapore

city to move

Singapore has an incredible transport system, which is based on high-speed trains. In its report, PwC notes that every year Singapore is getting better for life, gradually getting rid of all its drawbacks.

New York

city to move

Advantages: sustainable economy, ease of doing business, transport, infrastructure.

In the list of PwC, New York is the second city suitable for relocation. Ease of doing business, a developed transport system and a wonderful infrastructure of the city gave New York an opportunity to take a confident position.

Compared to other cities, New York is relatively cheap to stay. But the cost of renting a house or flat is very high and due to this fact New York is third after two more cities in the world.

London

city to move

In the ranking of PwC, London took the 1st place, which made it the most desired city for relocation. The government in every way promotes the development of business and the IT industry in the city. The recent project of the Ministry of Communications has provided almost all London schools with Internet access.

The transport system does not cause any complaints. Famous double-decker buses run according to the schedule indicated at the bus stops’ notice boards. A superfast train can take you to Paris in a few hours.

London is one of the richest cities in the world. This is both good and bad. For example, the number of billionaires in London is greater than in any other city, which is certainly good, but only for them.

Many residents complain that the city is becoming too expensive even for the working class. Also a big problem of the city is a large number of immigrants who require less money from the employer, thereby taking away work from the residents of London.
