Barbados – a fairytale island, is washed by the warm clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic. Its excellent beaches, filled with golden and white sand, provide a great vacation at the water’s edge. Its clubs, bars, night life, parties and the cool rum will not let you get bored.Barbados, surrounded by coral reefs, is a fantastic island with wonderful beaches, lush tropical nature and mild climate throughout the whole year.
The landscape of the island is mostly plain, but the closer to the eastern coast of the terrain it gets, the more mountainous it becomes.
The island is located at the eastern end of the archipelago of the Lesser Antilles.
Its eastern coast is washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, while the western one is flanked by the Caribbean Sea.
Barbados is a former British colony. All British traditions are still kept alive here. Barbados is often called the “Little England”.
The island has a local wildlife reserve, a place where unique species of tropical plants and animals are preserved – so it is not surprising that this place charms a lot of tourists from different countries. It is a dream habitat for green monkeys, deer, otters, turtles and other exotic animals and birds.
The capital city of Barbados is Bridgetown.
Rum is one of the business cards of Barbados. Hundreds of tiny bars and an array of colorful shops sell rum all around the island and it adds the island some specific coloring.
Cuisine and restaurants
The restaurants on the island are renowned for their diversity: you can try national dishes here. Especially popular is the dish with a flying fish called Cou-cou, as well as other seafood dishes.
The entertainment and attractions of Barbados
One way to see the sights of the island is to purchase the special “tourist passport” (Heritage Barbados Passport) for $35. It provides the opportunity to visit 16 major museums, natural and architectural monuments of the country with a 50% discount. The owner of such a “passport” may be accompanied by two children of up to 12 years for free.
Despite the outward calm of the island’s life, there is a sufficient number of bars and clubs on Barbados, including the open air party at the Harbour Lights that takes place right on the sand.
You can also take a day tour to the nearby islands of the Caribbean: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, where the famous film “Pirates of the Caribbean” was shot. The island of Dominica offers hundreds of rivers, waterfalls, tropical forests and mountains, St. Lucia is well known for its untouched nature of the tropics, waterfalls and mountains.
