My Trip & Tips forVisiting the Ancient Greek Theatre in Taormina

Located on the top of the hill in one of the most awesome settings imaginable is the Ancient Greek Amphitheater of Taormina. Situated on the eastern shores of Sicily, Taormina is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. It’s a popular destination with tourists due to its nice setting and trendy beaches. The Greek Theatre was built in the 3rd century BC and is well preserved for today opera and musical performances.7934344_f496So what can I tell you about this place? Well, first of all, the selection of its location will certainly bring a smile to the face of every photo enthusiast who walks this ancient ground. The views from the amphitheater out over the blue Ionian Sea and of Volcano Etna, especially on a clear day, are really breathtaking! A long time ago somebody knew exactly what they were building when planned to locate this theatre here.

For those of you who plan to see the Ancient Teatro Greco in Taormina it’s very easy to get there. Just follow the Corso Umberto, the main pedestrian road, until you face via Teatro Greco. Turn right and head up the hill until you come to the end of the road. And here you are! It won’t take long to walk from almost anywhere in Taormina and there are lots of signs to point you in the right direction. If you have a question, just ask anybody in the area and they will be glad to show you the road.

To get the best views you need to climb so keep it in mind before planning a visit. There are no elevators and the rocky steps and gravel walkways aren’t built for those with mobility issues. As you get to the top of the theatre, the views will be just great!

The theatre works daily from 9am until 7pm with shorter off-season hours until 4pm. The price of admission is 8 euro for adults. But the admission is free for people over 65 and older and under the age of 18. For those tourists aged 18 to 25 the price is 4 euro.

If it’s possible it’s better to try and plan your visit for a clear day as the view is definitely part of the attraction here. If Volcano Etna happens to be visible you are just lucky as a photo of the theatre with Mountain Etna in the background makes for one of the most picturesque images imaginable.

Bob Dylan, Elton John, Santana, Sting, Tony Bennett and Paul Simon have all graced this amphitheater with performances, and the acoustical properties of the theatre are among the best for an open air outdoor venue. Greek Theatre in Taormina is also a place for providing film festival here each June. Find yourself and visit it!

While there is much to do across Italy don’t forget about visiting Sicily, which is often overlooked. Taormina is one of the most awesome cities in the Mediterranean and the location of the Teatro Greco is spectacular. Imagine yourself sitting there looking out over the sea and Volcano Etna just as they did 2,300 years ago. Hope you will enjoy your trip to Taormina!

Ciao for now!
