Such a proposal may seem like a paradise vacation, while for others it looks like the script of a thriller: it depends on how strong the couple truly is. National Park Tasmania is looking for a couple of keepers of Maatsuyker, 186-hectare island, which is located 10 kilometers from the southern coast of Tasmania. The proposal involves working during the period, from March to September (or from September to March) over the next two years.Due to specific “security reasons”, only couples who can “prove that they can spend a lot of time together in remote areas” are invited to the island.
And if you are a happy couple who does not mind living on, “an island occasionally washed by rains and often ventilated by strong winds”, while having minimal contact with the outside world, this dream job is definitely for you.
The Lighthouse on the island is completely automated, so your responsibilities will be limited to looking after the infrastructure of the island – grounds, buildings, cars, equipment. You also need to care for plants and watch the daily weather for Met Office – in order for you to qualify for that, you will need to pass a paid training.
Provisions will be delivered every three months. But the island has its own garden where you can grow everything you want. The undoubted advantage is a XIX century house with four bedrooms and a bathroom, in which the happy couple will live.
Spending six months on the island with a partner, with no one to talk to, could sound like madness to some, but the sunrises and sunsets on Maatsuyker island are superb. So why not try to enjoy staying at such a romantic place and escape for a while from this busy world?
Oh yeah, we forgot to mention. Leaving the remote island is possible only by helicopter, and only in case of an emergency. You will be completely cut off from the mainland. Have we already said that there is no Internet or TV on the island?
